Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Dutch international Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £51.8 million (€60 million).
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed a five-year contract with the option of a further two years, keeping him at the club until 2032.
Simons completed his medical in London earlier this week and reached full agreement on personal terms, with the deal now all but officially confirmed.
New Spurs head coach Thomas Frank has been eager to bring in a new creative midfielder after summer injuries to both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski disrupted his early plans. The former Brentford boss finally has his man and expressed his delight at getting the deal over the line.
“I am really pleased we have brought Xavi in – he is a great addition to the squad,” said Frank. “He is still young, however he already has good experience and, over the past few years, has played a lot of games at the top level.
Xavi has proven his ability to get goals and assists, both from the No.10 position and left-wing. He also has a great eye for his team-mates in terms of unlocking defences, and I know he will come in and be part of a good team that is already working hard together.”

Simons also shared his excitement about the move, saying: “I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away that this was the right place for me.
“I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”
The Dutchman had been heavily linked with Chelsea throughout the summer, and for much of the window they appeared to be in pole position. However, the West London club never submitted a formal offer, instead prioritising deals for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Barcelona’s Fermín López.
Leipzig, preferring a cash-only deal, rejected a potential player swap from Chelsea and ultimately granted Simons permission to travel to London to finalise his move to Spurs.
Tottenham moved swiftly to wrap up the deal as other targets slipped away. Eberechi Eze, who had also been on the club’s radar, joined Arsenal, while Morgan Gibbs-White opted to sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest. With Chelsea stalling, Spurs capitalised and sealed what many are calling a statement signing.
Simons brings with him a wealth of top-level experience for someone so young. A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, he has already played for Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, and RB Leipzig. During his time in Germany, he registered 22 goals and 24 assists in 78 appearances, showcasing his creative abilities and versatility across multiple attacking roles.
Leipzig are now expected to pursue Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott as a replacement, with former Reds manager Jürgen Klopp—now serving as Red Bull’s global football advisor—reportedly playing a key role in the Bundesliga side’s next move.
Tottenham have started the Premier League season in strong form, winning both of their opening fixtures.
The addition of Simons not only provides cover for injured players but also signals the club’s intent to compete at the highest level this season. The official unveiling of the Dutch star is expected in the coming days.
