President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in Nigeria’s military leadership as part of renewed efforts to strengthen the nation’s security framework.
In the new appointments announced on Thursday, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff.
Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. Rear Admiral I. Abbas assumes duties as the Chief of Naval Staff.
Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the changes take *immediate effect*.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, particularly General Musa, for their dedication, sacrifice, and service to the nation.
He charged the new appointees to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and unity in their duties, emphasizing the need for collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and promoting internal stability.
“The President expects the new Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them and work collectively to enhance the security architecture of the country,” the statement added.
The appointments signal President Tinubu’s continued commitment to reforming the armed forces and bolstering national defense amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
