Arise News presenter Reuben Abati has expressed grief over the death of his colleague, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed in an armed robbery incident in Abuja on Monday.
Maduagwu, 29, reportedly died after jumping from her apartment when about 14 armed robbers invaded her residence in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Reacting during the station’s Tuesday Morning Show, Abati described the incident as “horrific and heartbreaking,” lamenting the deteriorating state of security in Nigeria. “It is horrific that life will be lost in a country where there is a government and where the responsibility of the government is to protect lives and property,” he said.

Abati further noted that such tragedies have become a daily occurrence across the country. “On a daily basis, we keep hearing these stories about Nigeria happening to people. This one has struck home here, and that is why we are all in black, mourning our colleague. It should be a reminder to the Nigerian government,” he added.
The FCT Police Command confirmed it has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
