Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi, the last child of the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pa Josiah Akindayomi, has died at the age of 62. His death occurred on Sunday, November 2, just a day after he served as chairman at a wedding ceremony.

His passing comes 45 years after the death of his father and seven months after the loss of his elder brother, Pastor Kolade Akindayomi, who died on May 4. The sudden nature of his transition has thrown the church community and close associates into deep shock.

According to a family friend who spoke with Church Times, Pastor Akindayomi appeared completely healthy and showed no signs of illness in the days leading to his death. “No one would have imagined that a man who chaired a wedding ceremony on Saturday would be gone in less than 24 hours,” the source said.

Explaining the incident, the source narrated that the late cleric returned from a prayer walk early on Sunday at the RCCG Redemption Camp, where he lived. While preparing for church service, he reportedly missed a step and fell, hitting his head on a sharp object. He lost consciousness and, before help could reach the hospital, passed away.

Until his death, Pastor Akindayomi served as Assistant Provincial Pastor of RCCG Ogun Province 5. He was also a businessman who ran a thriving printing press.

Family sources revealed he lived alone in Nigeria while his wife and children resided in Canada. They had urged him to relocate, but he remained committed to his ministry and business. Recently, he was said to have secured permanent residency in Canada and had begun preparing to join his family before the tragedy occurred.

One of his longtime friends and fellow pastor, Debo Akinyemi, described him as humble and unassuming. “Many did not even know he was the founder’s son. He never sought attention, lived quietly, and cared deeply for people,” he said.

Akinyemi, who attended Molusi College, Ijebu Igbo, with him, recalled him as a pleasant and disciplined student who maintained the same gentle nature throughout life. He expressed deep sorrow at the loss, noting that Pastor Akindayomi’s home was always open to visitors during major church conventions.

The late pastor’s death has been described as a significant loss to the RCCG family. Tributes continue to pour in for a man many say served God faithfully, without seeking recognition.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and the church in the coming days. May his soul rest in peace.
