Nollywood Actor, Okemesi In Coma Following Complications From Drugs

Nollywood comic actor and content creator Okemesi is reportedly in a coma after experiencing complications from medication administered at a hospital.

Actor Jeff Owolewa, better known as Tony Montana, made this known in an Instagram post on Monday night.

This came two days after Okemesi moved into a new apartment rented for him by the public.

Recall that Okemesi, whose real name is Bamidele Tope Saint, solicited financial assistance over two weeks ago after suffering from sickness that left him homeless.

However in a new development, Okemesi colleague, Jeff Owolewa, disclosed that the actor has been hospitalized again following complications from the drugs given to him by a hospital that treated him earlier.

Narrating how Okemesi was rejected by different hospitals before finally being taken back to the first hospital that treated and discharged him last week, Jeff noted that Okemesi is currently in a coma.

While urging Nigerians to put him in prayers, Jeff also begged for financial assistance for his treatment.

Jeff said “Guys, Okemesi has been hospitalised again. He was sleeping all through Saturday and Sunday without having much appetite for food due to complications from the drugs that were given to him from the hospital when he was discharged last week.

“I rushed to his house very early on Monday to take him to hospital. He was rejected in different hospitals including a government hospital in Igodo, the doctor refused to attend to him saying there’s no bed space. I have to take him back to the first private hospital that started his treatment. So they admitted him, and stabilised him.

“His breathing is improving. So, he has been in coma since Monday morning. They have placed him on oxygen. We’re all praying that he gets back on track.”

Caleb University appoints Pastor Adeboye’s wife as Chancellor

Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has been appointed Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.

Her appointment was announced by the institution shortly after she was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) during the university’s 15th convocation ceremony.

A statement by the institution’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, on Monday, said the new Chancellor would preside over convocations, confer degrees and serve as a ceremonial head of the university.

According to Adekoya, the conferment of the honorary doctorate on the wife of the globally revered cleric, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, was more than ceremonial pageantry.

“The conferment and subsequent appointment of the globally revered cleric, fondly known as Mummy G.O., signal what observers have described as “a convergence of scholarship and sanctity” — a rare alignment of intellectual excellence and spiritual authority at the summit of university governance,” the statement read.

“For decades, she has functioned not merely as consort to a global spiritual leader, but as an institutional builder, a counsellor of nations, and a matriarch whose disciplined grace has fortified one of the world’s largest Christian movements,” the statement added.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, described the appointment as significant for the institution’s development.

“It was an academic acknowledgement of a lifetime invested in education, youth mentorship, family values and moral formation.

“In the classical tradition of universities, including Caleb University’s governance, Mama’s appointment as Chancellor is not a mere titular ornament.

“The office is the custodian of institutional ethos, the embodiment of its philosophical soul and the visible guardian of its charter.

“The Chancellor presides at convocations, confers degrees, safeguards traditions and lends moral authority to strategic direction, as her office represents continuity, conscience and credibility.”

He said that the University had effectively enthroned character at the pinnacle of scholarship with the appointment.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olalekan Asikhia, whose Seven-Point Agenda has repositioned the institution within Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem, described the development as “a defining inflexion point in Caleb’s unstoppable ascent.”

He added that the appointment of Pastor Foluke Adeboye as Chancellor has now inscribed that founding philosophy in even bolder relief.

The Vice-Chancellor noted, “Her life narrative mirrors the University’s creed: discipline without harshness, authority without arrogance, influence without ostentation. In an era where institutions often struggle to reconcile excellence with ethics, her presence atop the University’s ceremonial hierarchy offers both reassurance and aspiration.”

According to Asikhia, the university believes Adeboye’s leadership and experience will strengthen its values and direction.

‘I can’t take it anymore, I’m done’ – Gospel singer, Busola Oke breaks down

Renowned gospel singer Busola Oke, popularly known for her hit track ‘Eleyele’, has sparked widespread concern among fans following a distressing live TikTok session.

During the broadcast, the singer broke down in tears as she opened up about her ongoing struggles within the music industry.

Visibly emotional, Oke apologised to her supporters while admitting she could no longer cope with the mounting pressures confronting her career.

In the now-viral video, she expressed deep frustration over the harsh realities of the modern entertainment landscape, stating that talent alone no longer guarantees success.

“To my fans, I’m sorry. I never planned to do this, but I can’t take this anymore. I’m done. Good music don’t sell anymore. How can you eat when there’s no food? How can you be at peace when there’s no peace,” she said.

Her comments pointed to frustration over financial challenges and the difficulty of sustaining a career despite talent and spiritual calling.

The gospel singer has reportedly been involved in a long-running dispute with her producer, Bayo Films. The issue has followed her career in recent years.

She also suggested during the session that some people who were once close to her are no longer present. According to her, financial instability has affected her peace of mind.

“There can be no peace when there is no financial stability,” she implied, adding rhetorically that one cannot drive without owning a car.

Busola Oke gained recognition through songs that connected with listeners within and outside the Christian community. Her tracks include Eleyele, Ogo Tuntun, Asoro Ma Tase, Alanu, and Adaba.

After the live session, fans and supporters shared prayers and encouraging messages on social media.

Many described her as a blessing to gospel music and expressed hope that she will overcome the current challenges.

Russia Recruiting Nigerians, Other Africans For Ukraine War, EU Envoy Alleges

Russia Recruiting Nigerians, Other Africans For Ukraine War, EU Envoy Alleges

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its fourth year, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, has raised concerns over what he described as a troubling development — the alleged recruitment of Nigerians and other Africans by Russia to participate in the war.

Speaking during an apperance as a guest on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme on Tuesday, Mignot, said reports from civil society organisations indicate that the recruitment is becoming a growing phenomenon.

“There is another important phenomenon which is impacting Africa, which is recruitment of African men and women by Russia. Women to be sent and work in military plants in Russia and men to be sent as cannon fodder on the front. Of course they are being lured with job promises,” Mignot said.

The EU ambassador stated that Russia is recruiting from Africa because it is running out of soldiers, describing the practice as crude and harmful to individuals with no connection to the conflict.

“Russia is running out of soldiers, so they have been growingly doing that including with Nigerians, and it’s extremely crude sending these people who have absolutely nothing to do with this war to die on the front.

“Some of them have been captured by the Ukrainian army, and this is something I think African countries have started to react to. We have seen even the Nigerian government publish a communique on this phenomenon of recruitment into war — they did not mention Russia,” he added.

On perceptions that Russia is winning the war, Mignot dismissed the claim, calling it a false impression.

“There are other false perceptions about this war, the impression that Russia is winning the war little by little — no, it is not. There is a stalemate at the front. Actually in the last few weeks it is Ukraine which has reclaimed a few hundred square kilometres of territory,” he said.

He noted, however, that the war is unlikely to be resolved by military means soon and argued that lasting peace requires international pressure on Russia to engage in dialogue.

Russia has denied reports of recruiting Africans for the war in Ukraine, describing the allegations as unfounded.

Mignot maintained that testimonies from Africans recruited for the war support the reports and dismissed Russia’s denial as untrue, saying it reflects an unwillingness to stop the practice.

On February 21, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognises the independence of Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk and Lugansk regions, where pro-Russian separatists have been fighting the Ukrainian army since 2014.

Three days later at dawn, Putin announces a major military offensive in Ukraine, which he calls a “special military operation” to “de-Nazify” and “demilitarise” its neighbour.

The four years of war have left tens or hundreds of thousands dead and pushed millions of refugees to flee their homes.

PSG’s Hakimi Faces Trial For Alleged Rape

Paris Saint-Germain footballer Achraf Hakimi, a key player in their Champions League-winning side last season, is to stand trial charged with raping a young woman, his lawyer and a French prosecutor told AFP Tuesday.

In February 2023, a woman then aged 24 told police in Val-De-Marne southeast of Paris that Hakimi had raped her.

The 27-year-old Moroccan international, who played a pivotal role in Morocco becoming the first African and Arab side to reach the World Cup semi-finals when they made the last four in 2022, denies any wrongdoing.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I contest it and everything proves that it is false,” he wrote on X on Tuesday.

“I await this trial calmly, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin said a trial had been ordered and the prosecutor in the Nanterre suburb of Paris confirmed it.

“A trial has been ordered on the basis of an accusation that rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA tests, refused to allow her mobile phone to be examined, and refused to give the name of a key witness,” Colin said.
