The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated ten new Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) / National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Digital Learning Centres across ten states of the federation, reaffirming her commitment to advancing digital literacy and inclusion, particularly among women and youth.

The virtual inauguration, held at the Office of the First Lady in Abuja, featured participation from the wives of state governors and community representatives from the benefitting states Abia, Delta, Edo, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, and Zamfara.

Senator Tinubu described the initiative as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes economic diversification through industrialization and digital innovation. She emphasized that expanding access to technology and digital training would help bridge inequality gaps and boost productivity across communities.

“The sustained advancement of digital literacy is already driving inclusive growth in our nation,” she said. “I urge members of the beneficiary communities to make good use of these facilities to enhance learning, creativity, and entrepreneurship, thereby improving livelihoods and contributing to national development.”

According to the First Lady, the digital centres are designed to equip citizens with essential ICT skills, enabling them to participate more meaningfully in Nigeria’s growing digital economy. She expressed optimism that digitizing key sectors such as farming, small-scale trading, and vocational enterprises would enhance efficiency, profitability, and ease of doing business nationwide.

“By providing communities with the resources required to develop ICT skills, we are empowering our people to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. This aligns with one of the key priorities of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to accelerate economic diversification through industrialization and digitalization,” she added.

In his remarks, the Director General of NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, lauded the partnership between the Renewed Hope Initiative and his agency as a catalyst for inclusive growth. He noted that digital transformation remains central to unlocking the potential of Nigeria’s economy.

“This initiative is key to accelerating national development and unlocking potentials across various sectors, especially among women and youth,” Abdullahi said. “Through collaborations like this, RHI is empowering Nigerians and driving national prosperity and inclusivity.”

The inauguration of the ten centres adds to NITDA’s ongoing nationwide infrastructure expansion. Under the current administration, 296 digital learning centres have already been established, including 15 in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative. The agency also plans to construct 148 additional centres, bringing the total to 592 by 2027.

The event marked another milestone in the Federal Government’s effort to mainstream technology in education, entrepreneurship, and governance, with the First Lady reaffirming her vision to ensure that no Nigerian — especially women and young people — is left behind in the digital revolution.
