Remo Stars Football Club has dismissed widespread reports claiming that head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has resigned, confirming that the 45-year-old tactician remains in charge of the Nigeria Premier League champions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ikenne-based club described the resignation reports as false, clarifying that Ogunmodede is currently in Abuja attending a CAF B coaching course aimed at advancing his professional development.
“Remo Stars Football Club wishes to clarify that our head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, remains an integral part of our technical crew and continues to serve as the head coach of Remo Stars FC,” the statement read. “Daniel is presently attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja as part of his continuous professional development and commitment to personal and technical growth.”

Rumours of his resignation spread earlier in the week after several media outlets claimed that Ogunmodede had walked away following a disagreement with club management. His absence from the touchline in recent games including the 5-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League preliminary round, the return leg, and the 3-1 defeat to Kwara United further fuelled the speculation.
The club explained that Ogunmodede’s absence was due to his ongoing coaching course and commitments with the Nigerian national team. He also serves as an assistant to Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle, a dual role that occasionally keeps him away from club duties.
“He will also continue his national assignment with the Nigeria national team, as the country prepares for the crucial FIFA World Cup African play-offs, the potential intercontinental play-off, and the Africa Cup of Nations later this year,” the club added. “We firmly believe this is a period that calls for collective national support and dedication to the success of Nigerian football.”
Ogunmodede, who signed a three-year contract extension in August 2024 keeping him at the club until 2027, has been central to Remo Stars’ impressive rise in Nigerian football.
Under his leadership, the Sky Blue Stars secured back-to-back second-place finishes before winning their first-ever NPFL title last season a historic feat that cemented his reputation as one of the most promising coaches in the league.
