The Imo State Police Command under the watch of CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into a viral video showing a woman brutalized for helping police investigation in the community.

The ugly and terrifying incident took place in Umuakalikwu Kindred, Uboegbelu, Azaraubo, Emekuku, an otherwise very civilized community.

The woman identified as Mrs Ndidiamaka Agu, 55, according to the Police was brutalised for assisting the Police in an investigation which the Police did not disclose.

In a hair-raising viral video which outraged not a few indigenes of the community, the six men went to the woman’s home, brought her out, kicked her around, beat her up, and at a point, slammed her on the wall.

In a statement made available to journalists in Owerri, the spokesperson of the Command, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed that acting on the directive, the X-Squad Unit has commenced action to identify, arrest, and bring all individuals involved in the incident it described as appalling act to justice without delay.

“Acting on the CP’s directive, the X-Squad Unit has begun efforts to arrest and bring all those involved in the appalling act to justice without delay.

“Preliminary investigations identified the suspects as Osuji Chiazor, Agu Azubuike, Njoku Onyedikachi, Njoku Eugene, Njoku Dikachi, Njoku Emmanuel and Iwuala Chukwuma.”

Okoye added that the assault was allegedly carried out because the woman cooperated with police officers who had earlier visited the community for investigative purposes.

He stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, after which they will be charged to court.

The Command’s spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police has strongly condemned the act, describing it as barbaric, inhuman, and totally unacceptable.

“He warned that any form of jungle justice or intimidation of citizens who lawfully assist the police will not be tolerated under any circumstance,” the statement said.
