Police authorities in Osun have yet to release an official statement, but sources within the command confirmed that detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been deployed to work with Amotekun operatives to unravel the motive behind the attack.
A senior Amotekun officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the ambush as a “targeted operation,” saying the commander was fortunate to survive.
“It was clearly a planned attack. The gunmen were heavily armed and fired several rounds at his vehicle. Thankfully, he managed to escape with his life,” the officer said.
As of the time of filing this report, Omoyele was said to be recuperating under tight security watch. Meanwhile, joint security patrols involving Amotekun operatives, police officers, and other security agencies have been intensified across Osogbo and adjoining routes to forestall further attacks.
