Governor Alia Sacks All Commissioners In Benue, Names New Chief Of Staff

The Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has sacked all his commissioners and dissolved the State Executive Council.

Governor Alia, who announced the dissolution at the close of the 12th meeting of the Benue State Executive Council in 2025, however, announced the appointment of former Attorney General of the state and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Moses Atagher, as the new Chief of Staff.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Tersoo Kula, the appointment of Atagher takes immediate effect.

The statement described the former AG as a “seasoned administrator” who is also a former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Kula quoted the governor as expressing gratitude to all former commissioners who served in his administration over the past two years.

He urged those who may not be reappointed to remain committed to the party and continue engaging with the system, noting that their exit makes room for other citizens to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

The governor clarified that apart from the Chief of Staff, the dissolution affects only commissioners.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing commissioners, Bemsen Mnyim thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve the state.

The statement quoted him to have said, “at every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you.”

Meanwhile, the former Commissioners had been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective Ministries as soon as possible.
