The Federal Government has introduced the National Health Programs for youths across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

The establishment of this program was approved by President Bola Tinubu on April 8, 2024, in a bid to revolutionize primary healthcare infrastructure and elevate healthcare accessibility and quality across Nigeria.

The National Health Fellows Programme, hosted within the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, is a presidential initiative designed to deploy young Nigerian fellows across all 774 local government areas in the country.

“These highly trained fellows will act as trusted agents tasked with monitoring and evaluating the development and performance of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs). Their oversight will ensure that every financial investment in these centres yields tangible improvements in healthcare delivery. Fellows will undergo rigorous recruitment processes, receive competitive remuneration, and be equipped with the necessary tools to effectively track the performance of health facilities supported by the Basic Health Care Provision Fund nationwide”, a Presidency statement informed in April.

A statement by the president’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga on Monday, also called for applications from persons aged between 25 and 35.

“The Tinubu administration is requesting applications from young Nigerians to enrol in the National Health Fellows Program.

“The selected fellows, aged between 25 and 35, would be engaged in all the 774 local government areas of the country.

“They would be remunerated and equipped with appropriate tools to drive positive change in the health sector,” the statement wrote.

Onanuga noted that the application deadline was 27th January 2025.
