The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it recovered over ₦566 billion in assets and funds between 2023 and 2025 as part of its ongoing fight against corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.

The EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this during a briefing on the Commission’s achievements in the last two years. He said the recoveries were made through diligent investigations, prosecutions, and collaborations with both local and international agencies.

According to Olukoyede, the recovered funds include proceeds from cybercrime, money laundering, public sector fraud, and contract scams. He noted that the figure reflects the agency’s renewed commitment to accountability, transparency, and the recovery of stolen public wealth.

“Between 2023 and 2025, the Commission successfully recovered a total of ₦566 billion, alongside several high-value assets, including real estate, luxury vehicles, and foreign currencies,” Olukoyede said. “These recoveries are direct results of improved intelligence gathering, enhanced inter-agency cooperation, and the dedication of our officers.”

He added that the EFCC has intensified efforts to prosecute offenders, with over 7,000 convictions recorded within the same period, many involving cybercrime and financial fraud cases. The chairman stressed that the Commission’s focus extends beyond arrests and recoveries, highlighting the agency’s growing emphasis on prevention and public education.

“We are moving from just catching offenders to preventing crimes through public sensitization and compliance monitoring in both the public and private sectors,” Olukoyede stated. “Our goal is to make corruption unprofitable and financial crimes unattractive.”

The EFCC boss also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency in managing recovered assets, assuring Nigerians that all funds are remitted to the appropriate government accounts as stipulated by law. He warned individuals and institutions against obstructing investigations, emphasizing that the EFCC will continue to uphold professionalism and the rule of law.

Olukoyede called for stronger public support, urging citizens to report corruption-related activities and avoid aiding financial crimes. He reiterated that Nigeria’s progress depends on collective integrity and accountability.

Analysts have commended the EFCC’s performance, noting that consistent recovery efforts and convictions signal a stronger anti-graft drive under Olukoyede’s leadership.
