Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has issued a stern warning to members he described as betrayers of the party, cautioning them to remember that the law of karma is real and active.

Damagum gave the warning on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with the Forum of State PDP Chairmen, who visited the capital to reaffirm their allegiance to his leadership amid ongoing internal divisions within the party.

Addressing the chairmen, Damagum condemned what he called acts of treachery and disloyalty by certain party members, accusing them of working against the interests of the PDP despite benefiting from its platform. “I want to use this opportunity to call on our colleagues that the devil is using, to see wisdom in casting the devil in them because treachery, especially to an institution that has made you what you are today, will not heal,” he said.

The PDP chieftain described loyalty as the cornerstone of political growth, stressing that no individual’s ambition should override the collective interest of the party. He warned that those undermining the unity and authority of the PDP leadership were only harming themselves and the party’s chances of reclaiming power at the national level.

Damagum assured the visiting state chairmen of his commitment to strengthening internal democracy, rebuilding public trust, and fostering reconciliation within the party’s ranks. He urged them to remain steadfast, focused, and disciplined as the PDP works to reposition itself ahead of future elections.

The forum of PDP state chairmen, led by its coordinator, reiterated their full support for Damagum’s leadership and called for unity across all levels of the party. They praised his restraint and commitment to due process amid the leadership tussle and urged aggrieved members to embrace dialogue.

The meeting comes amid growing tension within the opposition party over leadership legitimacy and internal restructuring efforts. Damagum’s remarks are widely seen as a veiled response to ongoing factional disputes that have threatened to weaken the PDP’s national cohesion.

The PDP, once Nigeria’s dominant political party, has been battling internal crises since losing the presidency in 2015, with several top figures defecting or forming rival blocs within its structure.
