Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has been appointed Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.
Her appointment was announced by the institution shortly after she was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Humanity (Honoris Causa) during the university’s 15th convocation ceremony.
A statement by the institution’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Olawale Adekoya, on Monday, said the new Chancellor would preside over convocations, confer degrees and serve as a ceremonial head of the university.
According to Adekoya, the conferment of the honorary doctorate on the wife of the globally revered cleric, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, was more than ceremonial pageantry.
“The conferment and subsequent appointment of the globally revered cleric, fondly known as Mummy G.O., signal what observers have described as “a convergence of scholarship and sanctity” — a rare alignment of intellectual excellence and spiritual authority at the summit of university governance,” the statement read.
“For decades, she has functioned not merely as consort to a global spiritual leader, but as an institutional builder, a counsellor of nations, and a matriarch whose disciplined grace has fortified one of the world’s largest Christian movements,” the statement added.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olalekan Asikhia, described the appointment as significant for the institution’s development.
“It was an academic acknowledgement of a lifetime invested in education, youth mentorship, family values and moral formation.
“In the classical tradition of universities, including Caleb University’s governance, Mama’s appointment as Chancellor is not a mere titular ornament.
“The office is the custodian of institutional ethos, the embodiment of its philosophical soul and the visible guardian of its charter.
“The Chancellor presides at convocations, confers degrees, safeguards traditions and lends moral authority to strategic direction, as her office represents continuity, conscience and credibility.”

He said that the University had effectively enthroned character at the pinnacle of scholarship with the appointment.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olalekan Asikhia, whose Seven-Point Agenda has repositioned the institution within Nigeria’s higher education ecosystem, described the development as “a defining inflexion point in Caleb’s unstoppable ascent.”
He added that the appointment of Pastor Foluke Adeboye as Chancellor has now inscribed that founding philosophy in even bolder relief.
The Vice-Chancellor noted, “Her life narrative mirrors the University’s creed: discipline without harshness, authority without arrogance, influence without ostentation. In an era where institutions often struggle to reconcile excellence with ethics, her presence atop the University’s ceremonial hierarchy offers both reassurance and aspiration.”
According to Asikhia, the university believes Adeboye’s leadership and experience will strengthen its values and direction.
