Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Thursday presented a total budget proposal of N515.583 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, with a strong emphasis on economic growth, infrastructure, and social development.

Presenting the budget tagged “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” Governor Buni said the proposal was carefully designed to consolidate the state’s gains in infrastructure, human capital, and rural development while improving service delivery across all sectors.

The 2026 budget marks a significant increase from the N320.811 billion approved for 2025, reflecting the administration’s determination to expand ongoing projects and initiate new ones aimed at stimulating growth and improving the welfare of citizens.

Out of the total estimate, N192.128 billion, representing 37.3 percent, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, covering personnel costs, overheads, and running expenses of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). The remaining N323.455 billion, or 62.7 percent, is allocated to capital expenditure, underscoring the government’s focus on physical development and infrastructure expansion.

Governor Buni explained that the capital allocation would prioritize key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, works, housing, and water resources, with particular attention to completing all ongoing and high-impact projects across the state. He noted that the administration’s fiscal policy for 2026 aims to deepen transparency, accountability, and efficiency in resource management.

According to him, the 2026 budget will also strengthen efforts toward job creation, youth empowerment, and security, while encouraging public-private partnerships to attract investment into the state’s economy.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management, ensuring that every kobo spent would translate into tangible benefits for the people of Yobe State. He commended the Assembly for its consistent cooperation in the budgetary process and expressed optimism that the legislature would give the proposal accelerated consideration and passage.

In his response, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, lauded the governor for sustaining a people-oriented fiscal policy and assured that lawmakers would scrutinize the proposal for timely approval in the interest of the state’s development.

The 2026 appropriation bill, when passed, will serve as the financial blueprint for the state’s development agenda in the coming year.
