Academic activities in Nigeria’s universities may soon be disrupted, as ASUU brace up for countrywide protests across branches. It was reliably gathered that this is a prelude to a nationwide strike which would end the over two-year uninterrupted academic activities.
In a communiqué released on Tuesday, August 19, ASUU accused the federal government of foot-dragging on unresolved issues and rejected plans to conscript the union as a guarantor under the Tertiary Institutional Staff Support Fund scheme introduced by the Tinubu administration.
A member of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) National Executive Committee (NEC), told our reporter last night that a NEC meeting would be convened any moment from now to approve nationwide industrial action.
The NEC member who heads one of ASUU Branches in the North West, expressed regret that the Bola Tinubu administration is handling the issue of welfare of its members with kid gloves.

“We are still mobilising. We have given the government enough time. The National President will convene a NEC meeting any moment from now to signal the way forward. But I can confirm that strike is on the table,” he said.
The planned protests raise concerns among students and parents, who fear another round of disruptions in the academic calendar. With rising economic hardship, many argue the country cannot afford another setback in the education sector.
