The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has officially resigned, a development confirmed by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, on Friday.
“Yes, it is true. The deputy governor has resigned from his position,” Shuaibu said, declining to provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the resignation.
Although the official reason remains undisclosed, sources indicate the decision comes amid mounting tensions between Gwarzo and the Kano State House of Assembly. In recent weeks, the Assembly had raised allegations against him, including claims of misconduct and questions about his handling of official duties. Lawmakers were reportedly preparing potential disciplinary measures, heightening concerns about a political standoff within the state executive.
The resignation coincides with significant political shifts in Kano following Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress. Since the defection, the governor has undertaken a series of administrative changes, including the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, and the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, as part of efforts to restructure the civil service and improve governance.
