Over 10,000 Teachers Sign Up for TRCN Qualifying Exam

More than 10,000 teachers nationwide have registered via the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria digital portal for the Batch A Professional Qualifying Examination scheduled for May 14–16, 2026.

The Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Ronke Soyombo, disclosed this on Tuesday, describing the figure as evidence of increasing confidence in the platform’s ability to manage large-scale registration and licensing operations across the country.

The portal, which was launched in September 2025 with the support of the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, represents a major step in the digital transformation of teacher registration, licensing, and certification in Nigeria.

Soyombo acknowledged that some users experienced challenges during the early phase of the portal’s rollout, attributing the issues to high traffic, increased demand, system upgrades, and the transition from manual to digital processes.

She said, “The initial challenges experienced were largely attributable to high user traffic and increased demand following nationwide rollout; ongoing system upgrades aimed at enhancing performance and security, which were duly communicated to users across all teacher platforms; and user adaptation issues associated with transitioning from manual to digital processes on the part of users.”

She explained that these challenges were part of a normal transition process and not an indication of any failure in the system.

According to her, the portal is now operating smoothly and efficiently, delivering uninterrupted services to teachers across the country.

“The TRCN digital registration portal is running smoothly and has continued to serve teachers nationwide without interruption,” she said.

Soyombo confirmed the registration figure, stating, “Over 10,000 teachers successfully registered for the May 14–16, 2026, Batch A Professional Qualifying Examination.”

She emphasised that the number of successful registrations demonstrates the platform’s effectiveness and reliability.

“This verifiable record shows clearly that the system is functional and effective,” she added.

She further clarified that the initial difficulties encountered were expected and should not be interpreted as a failure of the digital initiative.

Soyombo stressed that the portal remains the only authorised and transparent channel for teacher registration, licensing, and certification in Nigeria.

She also commended teachers for their patience and cooperation during the transition, assuring that efforts are ongoing to further improve the system.

The council reiterated that it has never authorised any bank or third party to sell registration forms.

“Registration is exclusively conducted through the official TRCN portal, ensuring transparency and eliminating fraudulent practices,” she explained.
