Grammy winner Wizkid has finally broken his silence after days of criticism from Seun Kuti, who accused Wizkid’s fans of disrespecting his father, legendary Fela Kuti.

The dispute ignited last week after Seun publicly accused Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, of disrespecting his late father’s legacy by drawing comparisons between Fela and the Grammy winner.

He said the act “was disrespectful and an attempt to steal the his father’s image”.

In a response shared on IG Stories, Wizkid posted a video of a woman defending him, saying he’s done more to promote Fela Kuti’s work to a new generation.

Reacting to the post, Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of the late Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, fired back at Wizkid in a fiery video that is now circulating widely on social media.

In the clip, she said “Wizkid is bigger than Fella Abi. Wizkid, you are also bigger than your father. That your useless father. That one wey abandon you and your mama wey don die so. That man, Muniru. Muniru Olátúnjí Balogun.

“You see that Muniru Olátúnjí, You are also bigger than your useless father. As you are bigger than our own father.

“Our father Fela is now bigger than your father, Muniru Olátúnjí Balogun and your mother, that woman wey die throway like cockroach. Yes Fela big pass those two,” Motunrayo said.

The exchange has raised serious concerns among fans and netizens, with many condemning the tone and personal nature of the insults traded by both parties.

Media personality Daddy Freeze has also weighed in on the controversy, sharing his opinion on the frequent comparisons between Wizkid and the late Afrobeat icon. He argued that the two operate on very different levels of impact, explaining that Fela’s influence was rooted not just in his music but in his active resistance against political oppression, which came with serious personal sacrifices.

According to him, Fela consistently challenged authority, endured arrests, and used his art as a tool for social agitation and advocacy.

Daddy Freeze noted that Fela’s legacy was built on courage, activism, and a willingness to risk everything for the freedoms he believed in, stressing that these elements are what truly defined him beyond his musical achievements.

He said in part: “Until Wizkid is ready to stand up and carry stones to Government House, he shouldn’t compare himself to Fela. Fela put his skin in the game. Fela wasn’t a troublemaker; he was a freedom fighter. agitation and music go and together, you can’t separate the two. Fela went to jail fighting for our right”.
