Osimhen to captain Super Eagles against Morocco

Victor Osimhen will wear the captain’s armband for the Super Eagles in their semi-final clash against Morocco’s Atlas Lions.

Regular captain Wilfred Ndidi will miss the encounter after picking up a suspension due to card accumulation.

Ndidi received his first booking during Nigeria’s Round of 16 victory over Mozambique’s Mambas and was cautioned again in the quarter-final match against Tunisia.

Recall that Osimhen previously captained the Super Eagles in their final group-stage game against Uganda.

The striker was appointed vice-captain of the national team on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Eric Chelle is expected to appoint Raphael Onyedika as Ndidi’s midfield replacement, ensuring that Nigeria maintains balance and control in the center of the park.

Other players, including Frank Onyeka and Calvin Bassey, avoided additional bookings in the quarter-final and remain available for selection, while the fitness of right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel will be assessed after he limped off in stoppage time.

As Nigeria prepares for the semi-final clash at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday night, Osimhen’s role as on-field captain will be vital in organizing the team and guiding the players through a high-pressure encounter against the host nation.

With Ndidi suspended, the Super Eagles will rely on Osimhen’s experience and leadership to inspire the squad, maintain their unbeaten record, and secure a place in the Afcon 2025 final.
