Mohbad’s Father Insists No Traditional Marriage Took Place With Wunmi, Calls for DNA Test Following New Claims

The controversy surrounding the death of Nigerian artist Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba) has intensified, with his father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, publicly alleging that his son refused to marry his partner, Wunmi, due to infidelity. Mr. Aloba continues to press for a DNA test for his grandson, Liam.

In a recent video, Mr. Aloba explained that he decided to speak publicly to clarify the controversy surrounding the circulating audio about whether Mohbad traditionally married Wunmi. He specifically addressed an audio being shared by the Adebanjo family, stating firmly that no formal traditional marriage ever took place.

According to him, “As a typical Yoruba parent, I had been seeing Cynthia with my son, and she told me she was pregnant for my son. As a responsible Yoruba man, I advised my son that it was time to meet the family of the woman he impregnated, and he agreed. He later informed me that we would be visiting her father on Saturday, so I invited a friend from my area to accompany me.”

He recounted his surprise upon arrival, explaining that he was told an oversized agbada had been sewn for him. Confused, he asked how they obtained his measurements without informing him, but his son told him not to worry. He wore the outfit and entered the venue, only to find a large crowd—mostly members of the Adebanjo family—while he had arrived with just a friend and no family representation.

During the introduction, he met Cynthia’s father for the first time. Mohbad then assured him and the adebanjo family that after she gave birth, he would perform a proper traditional marriage. However, after she delivered the baby, Mr. Aloba reached out to his son to ask for the date of the traditional wedding, but Mohbad said he was no longer interested.

Shocked, he asked his son why. Mohbad allegedly told him he had been battling with serious concerns, claiming that his wife would cook noodles and put sleeping pills in them to make him sleep, after which she would go to the next-door neighbour’s room to have sexual relations with him.

Mr. Aloba said he immediately cautioned his son, asking how he knew this happened if he was asleep. According to him, Mohbad claimed that the neighbour’s girlfriend caught Wunmi and reported the incident to him.

He added that Mohbad said he had already informed four people about the allegation: his elder brother Ibukun Aloba (the firstborn), his mother, and his friend Michael, popularly known as Myceen. Mohbad allegedly said this was why he could not proceed with the traditional wedding as earlier promised.

Mr. Aloba stated that these allegations were deeply troubling, which is why he is calling on the public for support and insisting on a DNA test for the child, Liam. He said he must be certain whether his late son is truly the father.

He maintained that the introduction was a necessity to acknowledge the pending birth of the child but was not intended to finalize the marriage, which was allegedly stalled by Wunmi’s alleged infidelity.

He concluded by stressing that there was no traditional wedding whatsoever. “No list was given, no bride price was paid, and no gifts were exchanged. So if the Adebanjo family claims there was a wedding, they should identify who they gave the marriage list to,” he said.

Mr. Aloba has consistently demanded a DNA test for Liam since his son’s death, arguing that it is necessary to determine the rightful heir to Mohbad’s estate and to conclusively address lingering questions regarding the child’s paternity.
