Paystack co-founder Ezra Olubi claims he's been fired unfairly after sexual misconduct allegations

Paystack co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, has announced that he has been fired by the company following allegations of sexual misconduct, a decision he says was unfair, premature, and in violation of due process.

Olubi made the disclosure in a detailed blog post titled “Terminated”, published on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

The controversy began in mid-November when a social media user accused Olubi of abusive behaviour. The allegation quickly went viral, prompting online users to dig up explicit tweets he wrote between 2009 and 2013, which triggered widespread condemnation.

As public pressure mounted, Paystack confirmed that it had suspended Olubi pending a formal investigation, saying it had established a review process and planned to appoint an independent investigator.

In his blog post, Olubi said the company dismissed him even though the investigation was still ongoing and without giving him a chance to defend himself.

He wrote: “Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online.”

Explaining his silence, he said:
“Once that process began, I chose not to make any public statements. I did this to avoid interfering with the investigation and because I expected a fair, thorough and unbiased review of the allegations being discussed online.”

He added that he was fired without any opportunity for explanation:
“I was not given a meeting or an opportunity to respond before my contract was ended,” calling the termination a move that “appeared to contravene the terms of [his] suspension and the company’s internal policies.”

Olubi argued that his silence created room for misinformation to spread:
“The silence I maintained, which was necessary for the integrity of the investigation, also allowed assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”

He insisted that the resurfaced tweets do not reflect his real-life conduct:
“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always… conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety.”

He concluded that his legal team would “explore possible steps in response.”

The allegations originally resurfaced after a person who had previously been in a relationship with Olubi posted personal accusations online. This renewed scrutiny led to public circulation of several explicit tweets he wrote between 2009 and 2013, including sexually suggestive comments involving colleagues and minors. Olubi has since deactivated his X account.

As of press time, Paystack has not issued a public statement addressing Olubi’s claims of unfair termination.
