Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday commissioned several landmark projects in Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), facilitated by the council chairman, Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo.

The inauguration underscores the administration’s commitment to grassroots development, innovation, and inclusive governance.

The projects unveiled include the Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi Island Golden Court, comprising two- and three-bedroom flats and four-bedroom duplexes with BQs; the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Operational Base, and the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Shopping Mall on Adeniji Adele Street.

Other notable commissions were the Babajide Olusola Aduragbemi Sanwo-Olu Administrative Building, Modupeola House, Hon. Muftau Kadiku Multipurpose Hall, Hon. R.F. Balogun Legislative Building, Ban Hakeem Oladapo Siwa Customary Court, Alhaja Ogunbambi Abisogun Mosque, and F.O.K. Sanya Chapel.

Sanwo-Olu lauded Folawiyo’s transformative leadership and the delivery of tangible dividends of democracy, urging other councils to emulate Lagos Island East LCDA’s model of innovation, accountability, and community service.

“We are building a Greater Lagos, a city embracing digital inclusion, social responsiveness, and physical transformation, where every citizen benefits from effective governance,” he stated.

The Governor also launched the e-Birth registration initiative, in collaboration with the National Population Commission (NPC) and UNICEF, ensuring every child receives a National Identification Number (NIN) from birth.

“This digital registration strengthens data management, planning, and ensures children are visible to government from birth,” he said.

UNICEF South-West Field Office Head, Celine Lafoucriere, praised Lagos State for leading the nation with 94 per cent of children under five already registered, noting the new system will enhance access to essential services for all children, including those in underserved communities.

The commissioning drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, and development partners, highlighting the LCDA’s renewed commitment to impactful governance and community growth.
