Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has announced that his administration has allocated N30 billion as counterpart funding for the implementation of the Kaduna Bus Rapid Transit (KBRT) project a major step toward improving urban mobility and modernizing the state’s transport infrastructure.
Governor Sani made the disclosure at the 7th National Transport Conference, describing the project as “historic and transformative.” According to him, the KBRT is a collaborative initiative between the Kaduna State Government and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), aimed at providing an efficient, safe, and affordable mass transit system for residents.
He emphasized that the Kaduna BRT will be the first of its kind in northern Nigeria and only the second in the country, following the successful Lagos BRT model. “We are committed to making Kaduna a modern, connected, and accessible city where transportation drives economic and social growth,” the governor stated.
Providing further details, Sani explained that the BRT system will operate along a dedicated 24-kilometre corridor, stretching from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha, covering major urban and suburban routes. He said the project would ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and promote cleaner, more sustainable urban transport through the use of eco-friendly buses and modern ticketing systems.
Governor Sani noted that the Kaduna BRT project reflects his administration’s broader agenda to enhance infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents through strategic partnerships and responsible investments. “Our N30 billion counterpart funding underscores our commitment to ensuring that the KBRT project is delivered on schedule and according to international standards,” he added.

The governor also highlighted that the BRT initiative will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during its construction and operation phases, boost economic activities along the corridor, and contribute to Kaduna’s vision of becoming a model city in sustainable urban transportation.
Participants at the transport conference commended the Kaduna State Government’s initiative, noting that it would serve as a benchmark for other states seeking to modernize their transport systems and address the challenges of rapid urbanization.
When completed, the Kaduna BRT is expected to significantly improve mobility, reduce pollution, and enhance economic productivity across the state’s major urban centers.
