The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved several key projects for the nation’s capital, including the design and construction of official residences for heads of federal courts, the provision of water to satellite towns, and major infrastructure development in the new Maitama 2 District.
Briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wike said the Council ratified the design and construction of official residences for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the National Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court.
“These are long-overdue projects,” Wike said, noting that construction work will soon commence. “The consortium handling the projects is already on board to ensure timely delivery.”
He also disclosed that FEC approved the extension of water supply to satellite towns including Karu, Karshi, Orozo, and Bwari, in line with President Tinubu’s commitment to expand access to potable water beyond the city center.

“The President inaugurated one of the Greater Abuja Water Supply projects recently and promised to extend it to the satellite towns. We have now flagged off that project, and by May next year, it will be ready for inauguration,” he stated.
The Minister further revealed that the Council ratified the earlier rehabilitation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which was carried out under emergency approval ahead of the last ECOWAS Parliament inauguration.
“You recall that Mr. President directed that the International Conference Centre be upgraded to international standards before the ECOWAS Parliament session. That project has been completed and inaugurated,” Wike said.
Highlighting what he described as the “most important approval of the day,” Wike announced that FEC gave the green light for the long-awaited engineering infrastructure project for Maitama 2 District, covering about 786 hectares of land.
According to him, the contract—originally awarded about five years ago but stalled—has been reactivated under the Tinubu administration. “When Mr. President came on board, he directed that the contract be terminated and reviewed for proper execution. Today, FEC has approved it again. Maitama 2 will be a model district for the new Abuja,” Wike affirmed.
The Minister assured that the FCT Administration is committed to delivering the project to open up new residential and commercial spaces within the city.
“This is one very ambitious project, and we are determined to give it all it requires to ensure the new district comes to life,” he added.
