Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima is in Belem, Brazil, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). The event is hosted in Pará state, widely regarded as the gateway to the Amazon rainforest.
Shettima will join global leaders, development institutions, and top business executives for discussions focused on climate action and implementation. This year’s summit places strong emphasis on adaptation, forest preservation, biodiversity, and ensuring climate justice for vulnerable nations.
His official itinerary begins with the Leaders’ Plenary where he is expected to present Nigeria’s renewed climate action commitments. He will also attend the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Fund and participate in a Climate and Nature roundtable chaired by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Later, he will join other heads of delegation at an Amazonian reception hosted by the Brazilian leader.
