President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday received the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with renewed commitment toward intensifying the fight against illicit drugs and strengthening national security.
During the closed-door meeting, President Tinubu was briefed by Marwa on ongoing counter-narcotics operations, including intelligence-driven crackdowns on drug trafficking networks, rehabilitation efforts for drug-dependent individuals, and the agency’s nationwide sensitisation campaigns. The President commended the NDLEA’s recent successes and pledged continued federal support to enhance operational capacity, manpower, and inter-agency collaboration.
Tinubu emphasized that drug abuse poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s youth, economy, and social fabric. He reiterated the administration’s resolve to protect communities and safeguard future generations through aggressive interdiction, public enlightenment, and improved rehabilitation programmes.

Marwa, in his remarks, thanked the President for the administration’s backing of the agency’s reforms and enforcement efforts. He assured that the NDLEA remains committed to dismantling drug syndicates, securing borders, and prosecuting offenders without bias or political influence.
The meeting comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations across major entry points and cities nationwide, with several high-profile arrests and seizures recorded in recent months. Analysts view the engagement as a renewed signal of the government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and abuse.
