Male Teacher Sparks Outrage After Asking Govt. for ‘Self-Control Allowance’ Over Female Students

A Ghanaian teacher has gone viral after humorously appealing to the Minister of Education to introduce a “self-control allowance” for male teachers, claiming it’s becoming increasingly difficult to stay focused while teaching teenage girls.

In a trending video shared by @mayfred on X (formerly Twitter), the unidentified teacher lamented that modern-day female students are “too fine and tempting,” making it hard for male teachers to maintain concentration in class.

“Minister of Education, I stand for my colleagues because we teachers deserve a self-control allowance. Looking at these young girls nowadays, we’re suffering. We deserve a self-control allowance because the students are irresistible. Imagine you’re a teacher and you don’t have self-control—will you leave them to go like that?” he said in the clip.

The teacher’s comments, though seemingly made in jest, quickly sparked heated reactions online. While some users found the video amusing, others condemned his remarks as highly inappropriate and unprofessional.

One X user commented, “Na discipline allowance you need, not self-control,” while another wrote, “This man just said what others are thinking but won’t admit.”

A critic, however, rebuked the statement, saying, “This is so wrong. Teachers are supposed to be role models, not victims of temptation.”

The video has since fueled debate across Ghana and Nigeria, with many calling for teachers to uphold strict ethical standards in the classroom. Others defended the teacher, insisting his comments were merely satirical and meant to highlight the growing challenge of maintaining professionalism in a changing social environment.
