In October 2025, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, intensified his government’s development drive with visible progress in public transportation, healthcare delivery, and disaster-risk management signalling a commitment to rebuilding confidence and functionality across the state.

Early in the month, Lawal commissioned 50 brand-new luxury 18-seater buses for the state-owned transport company in Gusau. The air-conditioned vehicles, equipped with GPS tracking and safety features, mark the first fleet upgrade in over a decade.

“This is not just about buses,” Lawal declared at the launch, “it is about connecting people, boosting trade, and restoring dignity to our transport system.” The initiative, valued at over ₦2.8 billion, is expected to revitalise mobility between Gusau, Kaura Namoda, Talata Mafara, and other key towns.

Healthcare also took centre stage during the month. The state concluded the tenth phase of its Free Modified Medical Outreach Programme, treating over 3,400 patients for cataracts, hernias, and obstetric fistula, among others.

The outreach, coordinated by the Ministry of Health and local hospitals, has reached more than 30,000 beneficiaries since inception. Lawal emphasised that “good governance must touch lives where it matters most in the hospital wards and rural clinics.”

Beyond social services, the governor reaffirmed Zamfara’s partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the launch of its 2025–2030 Disaster-Risk Reduction Strategy in Abuja. He pledged his administration’s readiness to domesticate the plan, strengthen local emergency committees, and create a state disaster response fund. “We must fund resilience, not disaster,” he told participants, echoing the national theme of the event.

Later in October, the government joined civil groups and residents in a “Walk for Peace” through Gusau, symbolising improved security and public unity after months of coordinated counter-banditry operations. Participants described it as a “testament to the return of normalcy” in parts of the state.

Governor Lawal also approved the rehabilitation of rural feeder roads linking agricultural communities to markets a complement to his earlier transport initiatives. The projects are part of the Zamfara Infrastructure Renewal Plan (ZIP), which combines road repairs, school rehabilitation, and water supply schemes.

By the end of October, Zamfara’s narrative had subtly shifted from one of recovery to one of resilience. Governor Lawal’s administration demonstrated that meaningful change is possible through infrastructure renewal, social welfare, and responsible governance giving citizens a glimpse of a stable and functional state emerging from years of insecurity and neglect.
