The Nigerian Police Force has announced plans to deploy 45,000 personnel across Anambra State ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

The massive deployment is part of a coordinated security operation aimed at ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible poll.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed this on Tuesday, noting that the deployment will include conventional and mobile police units, intelligence officers, bomb disposal squads, and special forces.

He said the police will work closely with the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other agencies to maintain law and order before, during, and after the election.

“Our priority is the safety of voters, election officials, and materials. Every polling unit, collation centre, and major route in Anambra will be adequately secured,” Egbetokun assured.

He also warned political actors against acts of violence or voter intimidation, stressing that the force would enforce the law firmly and impartially.

The police chief added that operational bases and surveillance teams would be stationed in identified flashpoints across the state to prevent disruption of the electoral process.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct the election, with logistics and materials already being mobilised to the state.

Civil society groups have commended the proactive measures, urging the security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the exercise.
