The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a notice of the Nov. 8 governorship election in Anambra as required by the Electoral Act.
INEC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Ugomma Lechukwu, issued the notice, briefing newsmen on Sunday in Awka.
“The INEC notice of poll is in accordance with sections of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).
“Notice is hereby given that election to the office of the governorship shall be held on November 8, 2025,” she said.
Lechukwu said that the election would commence at 8:30 am and end by 2:30 pm, adding that each voter would vote at the centre he or she registered.
According to her, only persons whose names appear on the register of voters and have a valid voter’s card are eligible to vote on that day.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that no fewer than 16 governorship candidates would participate in the gubernatorial election.
NAN also reports that two out of the 16 candidates are females, while 14 of them are males.
In another news, INEC announced dates for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards and a mock accreditation exercise ahead of the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election.
In a statement signed by its Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, on Monday, INEC said PVC collection for voters who registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise will run from Wednesday, October 22 to Sunday, October 26, 2025.
The Commission urged all eligible voters to collect their PVCs at their respective Registration Areas, stressing that collection must be done in person, as no proxy collection will be permitted.
INEC described the exercise as crucial for voters intending to participate in the upcoming governorship election, urging them to seize the opportunity to obtain their cards.
The Commission also announced a mock accreditation exercise scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, in selected polling units across the three senatorial districts of Anambra State.

The exercise, according to INEC, will test the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, assess its efficiency, and evaluate the process of uploading results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) Portal ahead of the main election.
Selected polling units include Anambra Central: Awka South (Amawbia II – Igwédimma Primary School I & II), Idemili North (Nkpor II – Ububa Village Square, Ifeadigo Hall), Anambra North: Oyi (Nteje III & IV – Girls Secondary School, State Primary School), Anambra East (Aguleri II – Central School, Umunoke Public Square I) and Anambra South: Aguata (Ekwulobia I & II – Central School, Urban Girls Secondary School), Orumba North (Ajalli I – Primary School, RCM KDT School)
INEC encouraged voters in these areas to participate in the mock accreditation, saying their feedback would help fine-tune operational and technological processes before the election.
Reaffirming its commitment to operational efficiency, transparency, and stakeholder confidence, INEC assured that adequate measures were being taken to ensure a smooth and credible governorship election in Anambra state.
The November 8 governorship election in Anambra State will mark the end of Governor Charles Soludo’s first term under the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
The keenly contested poll will feature major political parties, including the Labour Party, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and APGA, all battling for control of the strategic South-East state, widely seen as Peter Obi’s political stronghold.
