The Zamfara State Government has announced that it generated a total revenue of N358.9 billion for the 2024 fiscal year, representing 82 percent performance of its approved annual target of N437 billion.
The disclosure was made on Thursday in Gusau by the State Auditor-General, Abubakar Danmaliki, during the official presentation of the 2024 Citizens Accountability Report.
Danmaliki said the performance reflected significant progress in the state’s fiscal management and transparency efforts under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, adding that the state’s financial reforms were beginning to yield measurable results.
According to him, the impressive revenue figures were driven by steady growth across multiple streams, particularly Value Added Tax (VAT), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and federal statutory allocations, complemented by aids and grants from development partners.

“The 2024 fiscal year has been one of the most remarkable in recent times in terms of revenue generation,” the Auditor-General said. “The 82 percent performance achieved demonstrates improved financial discipline, effective monitoring, and greater efficiency in revenue collection mechanisms.”
Danmaliki explained that the growth in IGR was due to the government’s ongoing reforms in tax administration, which included automation of collections, expansion of the taxpayer database, and enforcement of compliance in key sectors such as mining, agriculture, and trade.
He further highlighted that VAT and statutory allocations from the Federation Account remained a major contributor to the total revenue, while support from development partners and donor agencies also played a crucial role in sustaining key social and infrastructural projects across the state.
The Auditor-General attributed the progress to the Lawal administration’s commitment to transparency and fiscal accountability, which, he said, had enhanced public confidence in government operations.
“The publication of the Citizens Accountability Report is part of Zamfara State’s obligation under the World Bank’s State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) programme,” he added. “It provides the public with clear, accessible information on how resources are generated and utilized.”
He also urged residents and civil society organizations to continue engaging with the government through accountability mechanisms to ensure sustainable fiscal growth and equitable resource distribution.
Economic analysts have commended Zamfara’s performance, describing it as an encouraging sign of recovery for a state that has faced significant security and development challenges in recent years. They emphasized that consistent improvements in revenue collection could help the state reduce its reliance on federal allocations and accelerate local development.
The Citizens Accountability Report, according to the state government, will be made publicly available through official channels to promote transparency and inclusiveness in governance.
The Zamfara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen revenue mobilization, improve service delivery, and ensure that public funds are judiciously managed for the benefit of all citizens.
