Wayne Rooney has been called out for a charity boxing bout by former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who’s tired of the Manchester United legend ribbing him over conceding Sergio Aguero’s iconic 2012 title-winning goal.
The hilarious feud, stemming from Manchester City’s dramatic 3-2 victory over QPR on the final day, has resurfaced as Kenny prepares for his own ring debut next month.
The former Sheffield United, Leeds and Ireland goalkeeper Kenny has mentioned that Rooney won’t stop talking to him about conceding two stoppage time goals – including the famous Sergio Aguero strike.
Kenny, who was between the posts for QPR that fateful afternoon, told Boxing Social: “He keeps hammering me about that Aguero goal, so I think me and him need to sort it out in the ring.
“13 years on, he’s still saying I let the goals in! It might have looked like I let them in but I didn’t!”

The challenge comes ahead of Kenny’s bout against ex-Premier League defender Curtis Davies at “A Night to Remember,” a stacked charity event on October 18 in London organised by former Arsenal keeper Graham Stack.
Other ex-pros like David Bentley, Jody Morris, Leroy Lita, and Lee Trundle are on the card, raising funds for worthy causes.
Kenny, who’s shed pounds in training, added: “That was one of the reasons I wanted to get involved, get myself back into shape. It’s for amazing charities, it’s going to be an amazing event.”
Rooney has previously been offered the chance to step into the ring by Misfits Boxing before the Plymouth Argyle job which only lasted seven months. Since his tenure at Plymouth Argyle Rooney is on Match of the Day and a frequent fixture on his own podcast.
