Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwatope Savage, professionally known as Tiwa Savage, has addressed lingering controversies involving Davido, while also setting the record straight on rumours linking her to Wizkid.
In an interview shared by The Breakfast Club on Tuesday, Savage spoke candidly about the December 2023 dispute with Davido, as well as her past experiences in a secret relationship she describes as ’embarrassing’.
The Tiwa-Davido tension reportedly began when Savage posted an Instagram story with Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama. Speaking in the interview, Savage explained the background of the disagreement and clarified that it stemmed from a personal matter.
“Our kids are friends, and they’ve gone to the same school since they were one. They’re 10 now. I’ve known David before that, but I naturally grew a relationship with the mother of their kid. And I didn’t really know there were issues,” she said.
She added that the incident at a social gathering was misinterpreted.
“I guess I was at an event and she was too. Naturally, we greeted each other. He saw that, and he took it the wrong way. I think it was a misunderstanding. He felt like I knew what was happening and was on her side—but that’s not the case. This is just a woman I know, who is the mother of my son’s friend.”
Davido allegedly perceived the post as a taunt, prompting Savage to claim he sent her derogatory messages and warnings for her to “be careful in Lagos,” which she interpreted as threats. She subsequently filed a police petition accusing the singer of threatening her life.
On whether she feared for her safety, Savage said, “I don’t think he was ever going to carry it out. David is such a joyful person, and I know he didn’t mean it the way it sounded… I always put our kids first, and that’s why I feel I have to be respectful to the mother of a child. It’s all about love.”

Savage described the dispute as a miscommunication rather than a serious conflict. “Even if I did know, I don’t think I would have chosen a side. It’s not my business to take sides,” she said.
Referring to her decision to involve the authorities, Savage explained that she acted out of caution.
“I reached out to members of his family before I did anything. I was hearing threats and asked if we could resolve it, but none of them came back to me. I just wanted to ensure safety for everyone involved, and that’s why I filed a petition. It wasn’t about revenge.”
The singer emphasised that her relationship with Davido remains respectful despite the incident.
