The release of American rapper Gunna’s latest album, featuring collaborations with Afrobeats giants Wizkid and Burna Boy, has ignited a heated online rivalry between the two Nigerian stars’ fanbases: Wizkid FC and Burna Boy’s Outsiders.
Since the album dropped, social media has been flooded with back-and-forth trolling and insults between the two camps.
The situation started yesterday when Burna Boy shared a post on his burner Instagram account during a performance.
He posted a photo with the caption: “This is 2021. And I’ve been doing this since GLO and Star Trek tour days. Na just last Christmas una start am. FC, tread softly o. Body Dey pepper me.” In a follow-up message, he added, “Create your happiness any Wich way. It’s allowed!”
The indirect jab at Wizkid’s fans was quickly noticed. A fan of Wizkid responded by accusing Burna Boy of reacting because his album had flopped: “Bro just stfu. Who don pass you don pass you nothing wey u fit do egbon. See as FC Dey make you Dey explain, and cry every hour.”
Burna Boy replied directly and confidently “Ok, I don gree, anything Gumbody him pass me. But na me dey sell stadiums for where ur idolo dey cancel him small small venues. Bro just dey happy dey go, Free me. My own no good.”

He didn’t stop there. Adding more fuel to the fire, Burna commented on an Instagram post, reminding fans that he was the first artiste to go shirtless on stage back in 2014 during the GLO tour, saying, “Only the biggest can run it don’t play. All love. But I did this in 2014 for the first time, GLO tour. I no fit dey follow una drag. Enjoy.”
Wizkid did not stay quiet. He reposted a comment on his X page with a straightforward “Weirdo!”
Later on Snapchat, he posted cryptic messages such as: “Get everything no happiness. No go be our portion! Amen,” “Dead, tired and burnt out souls!!” and “Pray for happiness,” which appeared to be directed at Burna Boy.
While Gunna’s album was intended to celebrate collaboration between international and African artists, it has inadvertently exposed simmering tensions within Afrobeats’ top-tier fanbases.
