The Presidency has quashed widespread online speculation that President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Mr. Bayo Ojulari, the recently appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
A viral report published Saturday had alleged that Ojulari was taken into custody by anti-corruption officials and pressured to resign — a claim that sparked concern within Nigeria’s oil and gas circles.
But in a statement to The Witness, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, debunked the story, labeling it as “false and unfounded.” According to Onanuga, President Tinubu has neither dismissed Ojulari nor directed his resignation.

Ojulari, a seasoned oil industry professional, was appointed to lead the NNPCL in April 2025 as part of Tinubu’s broader efforts to reform the petroleum sector. The Presidency’s clarification comes amid growing attention on the administration’s handling of the national oil firm and the economy.
