Humanitarian Minister Nentawe Emerges as APC National Chairman

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, currently serving as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus nominee for the position of National Chairman.

Following the resignation of former chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in June, the APC’s zoning arrangement favored the North-Central geopolitical zone.

During a late-night meeting on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu and governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) unanimously endorsed Professor Nentawe Yilwatda to lead the party’s national executive, a move aligned with the zone’s rotational leadership agreement.

The endorsement was formally presented by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, at the ongoing 14th meeting of the forum, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

The motion was seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

The minister was immediately sworn in thereafter.

Nentawe took the oath of office at 02:50 pm in the presence of party bigwigs during the 14th NEC meeting holding at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Thursday.

Yilwatda, a who hails from Plateau State, North Central Zone, is a former engineering lecturer and resident electoral commissioner, with roots in academia and public service. He also was the APC’s Governorship candidate in the 2023 elections. His emergence restores the chairmanship to the North-Central, a region previously represented by Senator Abdullahi Adamu before Ganduje’s tenure from the North-West
