Nigerian film star Dayo Amusa has come forward to firmly deny claims made in a viral video listing her among celebrities living with HIV.
In a video posted to her Instagram page, Amusa emphasized that the statement was false, malicious, and without basis.
Amusa expressed that she was shocked to see her name included in the video, stressing that she is HIV negative.
She recalled that she once posted about HIV awareness in 2019 to educate people on the need to know their status and seek help when necessary.
“I want to address a video that is trending across all social media platforms… The video is related to a post I made in 2019 regarding my HIV status, which was negative,” she explained. She said her original post was educational, aimed at encouraging people to know their HIV status and seek medical help if needed.
However, she explained that the post was misused by Segun, who picked it up years later and twisted it without checking the facts.
She questioned the reasoning behind spreading such a damaging story without evidence while demanding that Segun provide proof of the hospital or laboratory allegedly confirming her status.
Amusa strongly condemned the defamatory claim that she is HIV positive, calling it “shocking” and stressing that it lacked any proper investigation. “It’s shocking that someone picked it and enlisted me with others, claiming we are HIV positive without any proper investigation,” she said.

She didn’t hold back in warning the creator of the viral video, stating: “He will be my scapegoat and serve as a lesson to others. I am not HIV positive”. Amusa confirmed her intention to pursue legal action, noting: “I am not going to let this slide. I will make you a scapegoat”
In the two-minute Instagram message, the actress reaffirmed her negative status from six years ago, emphasizing that the original purpose of her post was to educate the public and break the stigma surrounding HIV.
The content creator behind the false claim has reportedly issued an apology to Amusa.
He explained that although Amusa had once discussed HIV on television, she never said she was positive.
He accepted full responsibility for the error, confirmed that the video had been taken down, and promised to improve his content process to avoid such issues in the future.
Meanwhile, the incident has drawn public support for the actress and sparked renewed discussion about the consequences of spreading unverified health information online.
