Kylian Mbappé has been admitted to hospital with acute gastroenteritis, Real Madrid have said.

The striker is suffering from acute gastroenteritis.

He is undergoing tests and treatments at a hospital, the club announced.

Mbappe missed Real Madrid’s opening Club World Cup match against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal  which ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

A statement by the club reads: “Our player Kylian Mbappé is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment,” Madrid said in a statement.
Symptoms of acute gastroenteritis include diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite and abdominal pain and cramping.

A club source said Mbappé, who was taken to hospital on Wednesday, had been isolated from his teammates since Tuesday and was considered out of the group stage of the Club World Cup.

Mbappe has been instrumental for Real Madrid this season, scoring 31 LaLiga goals since his high-profile summer move from Paris St Germain.

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso was asked about Mbappe’s condition following the clash with Al-Hilal.

Madrid’s manager, Xabi Alonso, had said after the Al-Hilal game that Mbappé had experienced “significant viral issues” and that the forward would be assessed before the next match, on Sunday, against Pachuca. Madrid face RB Salzburg in their final group fixture next Friday.

He responded saying: “I don’t know if Mbappé will be back for the next game. We’ll see.

“He wasn’t doing well in the last two days. He’s sick.”

The France international is now a doubt for Real’s next match on Sunday against Mexican side Pachuca.

Alonso’s side end their group campaign against RB Salzburg.
